Dear Huxley Alums, Friends, and Supporters,
Regretfully, given the growing concern around COVID-19, and at the advice of the Washington State Department of Health and the WWU Incident Command Team, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Huxley 50th Anniversary All-Class Reunion and Gala the weekend of April 24-26.
The epidemiological modeling suggest that the number of COVID-19 cases will continue to grow, particularly in our region. Based on what we are hearing from public health experts, we can expect that the virus will still pose a major challenge during spring quarter. We are also cancelling or modifying many of the other 50th anniversary events, including some Huxley Speaker Series talks and volunteer events.
This was a tough call to make - but we need to prioritize the health and safety of our alumni, students, employees, and many friends and supporters.
In the coming days we will explore options for rescheduling the reunion weekend. We’ll keep you apprised as events unfold, and will post updates at the Huxley 50th webpage.
We have also taken many other steps to plan and prepare the Huxley community for the pandemic. You can see the Huxley COVID-19 Response Plan and resource materials at the main Huxley web page - huxley.wwu.edu
WWU has also developed a very robust response plan, which you can review - wwu.edu/coronavirusI’m extremely proud of Western and the Huxley faculty and staff for the great work that’s been accomplished in such a short period of time.
Best,
Steve Hollenhorst
Professor and Dean
