Dear Huxley Alums, Friends, and Supporters,

You are invited!

Spring 2020 officially marks 50 years since the Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University was created as the world’s first interdisciplinary environmental college. For five decades, Huxley has been preparing the next generation of environmental leaders and problem solvers. The Huxley 50th Anniversary is an important opportunity to look back on our history, celebrate our achievements and take a bold step into the next 50 years. The celebration corresponds with the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.

Within this page you’ll find a year-long program of commemorative activities and events, culminating with a main celebration weekend, slated for April 25-27, 2020, the weekend after Earth Day. Through all of the year’s events, we will honor and celebrate with the alumni, students, emeritus faculty, staff, retirees, partner organizations, and community members who have helped make Huxley what it is today and all that it will be in the future.

The celebration begins in September 2019 with kickoff events in Seattle and Bellingham and carries forward through Spring Graduation in June 2020. In the months between we will commemorate the unique role Huxley plays in the environmental well-being, social equity, and economic sustainability of the communities we serve.

Throughout the year, we will also raise funds for a new Huxley 50th Anniversary Scholarship fund, aimed at providing opportunity for all deserving students to attend Western, study the environment at Huxley College, and continue the legacy.

Huxley is much more than curriculum and classrooms.  The College is the embodiment of the individuals dedicated to creating a better environmental future for all. That’s Huxley’s legacy. Thank you for celebrating with us!

Sincerely,Redwood branch

September 2019 - Kickoff Events

Kickoff events will be held on campus and in Seattle. The main objectives will be to introduce the upcoming year of Huxley’s 50th Anniversary and announce our plans to raise $50,000 for the Huxley 50th Anniversary Scholarship and $50,000 for our Climate Innovation Fund.
Huxley has an endowment of $1.3 million and each year awards over $45,000 in scholarships and awards to students. These new scholarships will increase access to Huxley programs for all students and their families, which is key to our success over the next 50 years. The Climate Innovation Fund was established to help the college better address the climate crisis in our teaching, research, and outreach programs.
