WWU Aerial - South Campus

Our Mission

Huxley College of the Environment addresses today's environmental issues and prepares tomorrow's interdisciplinary problem solvers. We accomplish this mission by integrating outstanding educational programs, faculty-student collaboration, applied research, and professional and community service.

Our Vision

Huxley's integrative approach is designed to train students for creative, fulfilling careers in a changing world. Since its establishment in 1969, Huxley College has won national and international recognition for undergraduate and graduate programs that are continually refined to enhance practical, collaborative approaches to solving environmental problems.

Like Earth Day, WWU’s Huxley College of the Environment recently celebrated our fortieth anniversary. Throughout our history, we have strived to embody the dictum of British scientist Thomas Henry Huxley, who said, “Learn what is true to do what is right.”

"[E]ducation is the instruction of the intellect in the laws of Nature, under which name I include not merely things and their forces, but men and their ways; and the fashioning of the affections and of the will into an earnest and loving desire to move in harmony with those laws." Thomas Henry Huxley, "A Liberal Education," 1868.
