The Department of Environmental Studies

The mission of the Department of Environmental Studies is to affirm and work within the broader mission of Huxley College: integrating outstanding educational programs, faculty-student collaboration, applied research, and professional and community service. Many of our graduates go on to the environmental careers for which they trained, while others continue their studies in education, law, natural resource management, public administration, and urban and environmental planning.

Students, faculty, and staff in the Department of Environmental Studies examine interacting social and natural systems. Our curriculum, which creates direct dialogue between the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities, is designed to help students make the intellectual connections and gain the practical skills necessary for building socially and environmentally sustainable futures.

Through the integration of the natural sciences, social sciences, and allied professions, the Department of Environmental Studies at Huxley College endeavors to educate problem solvers who are able to meet the environmental challenges of our times.
