GPS Equipment - Garmin GPSmap 66sr

The College of the Environment has an assortment of GPS equipment available for checkout, most of which has been purchased using Student Technology Fee (STF) funds over the years. The main receivers in use at this time are Garmin GPSmap 66sr receivers. Purchased in 2022, these units are multi-GNSS (i.e., the use not only GPS satellites but also Galileo, Glonass and and QZSS) and multi-band (using both the standard L1 band and the L5 band).

For the highest positional accuracy, enable both Multi-GNSS and Multi-Band (use the Page button to select the Main Menu screen / Setup / System / Satellite: for Satellite System, choose Multi-GNSS; for Multi-Band, choose On

 

 

(Old) GPS Equipment - Garmin GPSmap 60

Though the units are showing their age, we still have a handful of our older Garmin GPSmap 60 receivers (an assortment of GPSmap 60 C, CS & CSX units).

 

 

The Spatial Analysis Lab (AH. We use and recommend the free DNRGPS software.

In addition, we also have some older Trimble GPS equipment and software, most of which is now outdated or retired... 

 

Reservations

GPS equipment can be checked out for field usage by WWU faculty, students and staff. The priority for reservations (in the event of scheduling conflicts) are:

     - Classroom usage

     - Faculty or student research projects

     - Individual/recreational usage

In addition, requests coming from College of the Environment faculty, students and staff are given priority over requests coming from outside the College.

During the academic year GPS equipment is typically checked out for a day or two, but usually no longer than a week. In the summer when classroom demands are less and most field work is ongoing units may be checked out for longer durations.

 

Requests for summer reservations is do by May 15. Equipment requests received after May 15th will be given lower priority (if and as equipment is available).
