Eli's background is in wilderness. His field work has been conducted in Antarctica, wilderness areas in Western Montana, and now in Southern Utah, where he is the executive director of the Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS). The school has been teaching wilderness, primitive, and survival skills in one of the most remote areas in the continental US since 1968.
