Huxley College has an assortment of GPS equipment available for checkout, most of which has been purchased by Student Technology Fee (STF) funds over the years. The main receivers in use at this time are Garmin GPSmap 60 receivers (an assortment of GPSmap 60 C, CS & CSX units).
The Spatial Analysis Lab (AH-16) has USB cables and software for downloading data from the Garmin GPSmap 60. We use and recommend the free DNRGPS software.
In addition, we also have some older Trimble GPS equipment and software, most of which is now outdated or retired...
GPS equipment can be checked out for field usage by WWU faculty, students and staff. The priority for reservations (in the event of scheduling conflicts) are:
- Classroom usage
- Faculty or student research projects
- Individual/recreational usage
In addition, requests coming from Huxley College faculty, students and staff are given priority over non-Huxley requests.
Reservations and advance arraignments to pick up equipment are strongly encouraged:
During the academic year GPS equipment is typically checked out for a day or two, but usually no longer than a week. In the summer when classroom demands are less and most field work is ongoing units may be checked out for longer durations.
Requests for summer reservations is do by May 15. Equipment requests received after May 15th will be given lower priority (if and as equipment is available).
