Wildland Studies
For the past 40 years, Wildlands Studies has taught undergraduate field programs and offers students the rare opportunity to join a backcountry study team as a working field associate. Programs take place on five different continents and fifteen different countries, they are nomadic by nature, evolving annually to match the latest environmental concerns of the region. Academically rigorous, each outdoor study program earns 5-15 quarter credits and features direct contact and instruction with PhD. credentialed faculty who are subject matter experts with a deep passion for their topics. Students come from all over North America and form small teams of 8-16, perfect for sharing energy, responsibilities and new discoveries. The overarching goal is for students to leave their program with extensive knowledge about a specific region and the broader skills and understanding of ecological, geological and social sciences to effectively evaluate this information in their future careers.
About the Speaker
Allison Dolan is an alumna of the 2013 Wildlands Studies New Zealand program and now serves as the Wildlands Studies Senior Field Studies Advisor. Upon graduation from Northern Arizona University in Environmental Studies, Allison worked as an air quality consultant helping to improve visible emissions monitoring and reporting techniques. She then shifted her focus to teaching environmental stewardship, and now spends her time representing Wildlands Studies, hoping to inspire students to learn experientially. Allison credits her career success to the many meaningful experiences she had on the Wildlands Studies New Zealand program, believing the programs offered by Wildlands Studies expand understanding of the natural world, and unlock opportunities for working in and improving the environment.
Environmental Speaker Series
The Environmental Speaker Series is hosted by the College of the Environment at Western Washington University.
The Series is free and open to the public. Talks are held each Thursday at 4:30 pm in Academic Instructional Center West room 204 - AW-204. Talks will also be streamed via zoom. Register with the Alumni Association for the zoom link. Paid parking is available in lot C.
