Department Overview

Environmental Science Students recording data and analyzing samples on a rocky river bedAt the College of the Environment, we are dedicated to educating future environmental experts and leaders who will take on today's environmental challenges: rapid population growth, climate change, natural habitat loss, energy production, natural hazard exposure, and other issues looming large in the early 21st century.

We believe these challenges demand capable problem-solvers steeped in both the social and ecological sciences--trained professionals who recognize that solutions to complex problems emerge from interdisciplinary research and collaborative frameworks.

College of the Environment curriculum is divided into two branches:
Environmental Sciences and Environmental Studies.

The Environmental Studies Branch is now comprised of both Environmental Studies and the NEW Department of Urban and Environmental Planning & Policy (UEPP). To learn more about this exciting change, please visit our 2021 announcement page.
