About

I am trained as a human geographer with emphases in urban and economic geography as well as quantitative methods. I earned my MS in Geography from Western Washington University and currently I am working toward completing my PhD in Geography from Michigan State University. My research interests rest broadly at the nexus of sustainable development, social and environmental justice, and gentrification. My ongoing projects use an environmental justice framework to examine the sociohistorical development of environmental gentrification and to assess sustainable urban development. These research foci underscore my teaching and I encourage students to question how competing interests in urban sustainability initiatives can lead to inequitable distribution of environmental amenities across population groups.
