Elliot Scott

Honoring the legacy of Elliot Scott

Elliot Scott, a double major in Chinese and Environmental Studies, unexpectedly passed away in mid-April 2020. His academic and field work focused on environmental restoration, sustainable living and permaculture homesteading. He was a senior and expected to graduate in December 2020 with dreams of living in China and pursuing regenerative agriculture. He is remembered as a genuine, kind-hearted, passionate, and free-spirited individual, who cared deeply for those around him and the environment.

Madison is recognized for her outstanding work as an intern at the Bellingham Office of Emergency Management. Madison’s applied knowledge garnered from her Urban Planning Major and Disaster Risk Reduction minor classes to real life projects, specifically tsunami hazards mitigation planning for the port of Bellingham. Congratulations, Madison! 

Matthew Ferrell

Matthew is a dedicated, thoughtful, and resourceful educator. His work as a TA with environmental interpretation class and commitment to social justice stood out.   For his final project, he returned to his roots as an actor by writing a play that deals with eco-grief and hope.  Matt’s work is humble and powerful and comes with deep consideration of the people and other-than-people that make up his communities.
